Photo of the Stockton Boonies - From Yours Truly
I am proud that my beautiful hometown, Stockton, has made it to the top of the "Misery Index" according to the Forbes. Central Valley, forever.
Originally, I wanted to make a game about a changing landscape. When I was a child, I lived in the Northern end of town which was very rural. I remember there was a field of sunflowers that bloomed every late spring, and I told myself that one day if I ever wanted to run away from home, I would go there. A few years later, I did live there - except in a constructed home atop of my paradise. Meadows no more.
Though, Studio Ghibli made a movie so similar to what I wanted to do. I gave up on the idea. Then I played a game called Age of Empires III, and I fell in love with the colonial era, and I wanted to make a game set in that time. However, it would be hard to work with human characters. Would it be a multi-generational game? That would be a tough narrative to pull off.
Then my cousin introduced me to Axis Powers Hetalia, and I put the three ideas together - badum. TLG.
Its kind of tragic, really. In 2001, my hometown was nominated "The All-American City," then when the housing crisis, the land was worth nothing.
What an insult. It is the most fertile regions in California, and arguably the United States. Not to mention it is a beautiful valley, but needless development fueled by greed to capitalize reckless and ruthless has resulted in blocks and blocks of empty homes, now used to cultivate various narcotics.
God Bless America. Bless God America. America Bless God. Herp. Derp.
